Job Description:

JOB DESCRIPTION:  Clinical Therapist and Addictions Counselor
Able to provide individual, couples, group, and family therapy.
Essential Functions
1.      Participates in the evaluation and implementation of various treatment modalities.
2.      Provides individual, conjoint, marital/family, and group psychotherapy for clients.
3.     Designs and implements plans of care, identifies goals to be achieved and steps for achievement.
4.      Screens adults and/or children for the appropriateness of treatment; conducts biopsychosocial assessments and provides or assists in diagnoses of mental disorders.
5.      Assists in determining causal relationships of problem behavior, personality traits, socio-economic conditions, and substance abuse.
6.      Coordinates cases as assigned and assists staff in the provision of case management activities.
7.      Determines authorization for treatment.
8.      Develops and acquires approval for written plans of care.
9.      Works cooperatively with community agencies to provide a full range of needed services for clients; works in community self-help groups and assists with community liaison activities.
10.  Keeps supervisors apprised of issues related to client treatment.
11.  Acts as an advocate for clients.
12.  Refers clients to community agencies and/or other support systems; refers clients to medical or psychiatric services as appropriate.
13.  Provides crisis intervention.
14.  Keeps accurate and timely records; prepares correspondence, progress notes, written reports and other documentation.
15.  Attends in-service training; participates in meetings, committees, and conferences.
16.  Utilizes a personal computer and various software programs utilized by Clearwater Counseling. 
Additional Functions
a.      Route referrals and new clients through Clearwater Counseling scheduling support staff to collect demographics, billing information, and schedule new client appointments.
b.      Maintain scheduled appointments as needed, attending the appointments on time, and billing appropriately according to billing codes and services provided. 
c.       Work with Clinical Supervisor to set schedule that includes two evenings of availability and maintain schedule as set.  Any changes in set schedule must be approved by Clinical Supervisor. 
d.      Maintain a professional relationship as stipulated by licensure and ethic regulations by the Nebraska Department of Human Services. Clinical Therapist and Addictions Counselor is responsible for immediately notifying Company of any change in licensure status, complaints, or investigations.
e.      Manage and maintain client files, including, but not limited to: typed PTAs, 90-day treatment plans; progress notes within 48 hours of session date, and discharge summaries with 60 days of last date of service. Paperwork is to be maintained to the standards established by Clearwater Counseling and al payment source requirements for the purposes of complying with internal and external audits. Clinical Therapist and Addictions Counselor assumes monetary responsibility for files not maintained to standard.
f.        Provide documentation for each billed code according to Clearwater Counseling standards and insurance company requirement in order to be paid for reimbursed service. Clinical Therapist and Addictions Counselor assumes monetary responsibility for incomplete files or inappropriate billing.
g.      Provide and maintain weekly schedule through Clearwater Counseling’s scheduler.
h.      Confirm schedule daily for billing specialist.
i.        Attend all scheduled staff meetings, scheduled supervision meetings, and in-house trainings unless prior approval is given.
j.        Follow Clearwater Counseling policies, procedures, and processes as established.
k.       Follow direction as provided by clinical supervisor including attending weekly supervision meetings, staff meetings, and any other meetings as scheduled. 
Knowledge of: Principles of mental health; laws, rules, regulations, and ethics governing a public mental health agency and the Board of Behavioral Sciences; confidentiality standards and HIPPA regulations; principles and techniques of psychotherapy and case recording; diagnostic criteria and diversified treatment modalities; criteria for medical necessity; working within the scope of practice and the scope of practice of the clinical supervisor; office functions and procedures including basic computer skills.
Ability to: Apply the laws, rules and regulations governing a public mental health agency to specific situations; apply the principles and techniques of psychotherapy and case recording; utilize a personal computer and software; access, utilize and maintain electronic records and files; apply diagnostic criteria and diversified treatment modalities; establish and maintain effective working relationships; conduct interviews effectively; write and speak effectively; work with groups and individuals to effect changes in behavior; relate professionally to other agency personnel and other organizations; evaluate and handle psychiatric emergencies; use crisis intervention techniques and determine the need for referral to other agencies or professionals; and perform psychotherapy for a diverse population of individuals and report to work as scheduled.

Job Requirements:

Required Education and Experience
Master’s Degree in Counseling or Social Work attained with coursework in Addictions Counseling (Dual Diagnosis Eligibility preferred). 
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
State of Nebraska licensure in mental health and addictions counseling.  Provisional licensure acceptable. 
Description of Duties
Under supervision, to plan and provide direct mental health psychotherapy and services for adults, children, families and groups; and to assist in the implementation of treatment programs.
Demonstrated clinical knowledge and skill in the treatment of children, adults, family and geriatric populations.  This may include substance abuse, dual diagnosis and working with specialty populations or with legal offense-related clients, who are acutely or chronically mentally ill and/or mentally impaired.  Therapists may be required to work flexible hours including some evenings.
