Monday-Friday 7:30-4:00
Determines and requests/submits staff, material, and equipment needs for Mental Health. Develops performance evaluation standards and procedures for subordinate staff. Reviews and compares work performance of subordinate staff with established standards. Counsels and confers with subordinate staff. Trains subordinate staff and other NDCS employees in the principles, practices, policies, and/or procedures of mental health services/therapy. Assesses psychosocial status and needs of inmates served using information from psychological evaluations, social work assessments, individual history, and direct clinical observations to recommend treatment dispositions/plan changes or referral for major mental illness or disorder. Counsels, treats and provides psychotherapy to individual and groups of male inmates. Compiles progress notes, documents, assessments, treatment activities and other written documentation on assigned inmates in a timely manner. Explains the methods and purposes of mental health programs and solicits feedback to inform concerned parties and improve the programs. Consults with administrative, psychiatric, unit management, custody, mental health, and other personnel to assess organic or emotional disorders, to make referrals, or to consult with individual inmates. Coordinates interdisciplinary team meetings and/or serves as a member to ensure completeness of individual treatment plans or other case management functions, or to update treatment plans. Actively participates in multi-disciplinary treatment planning, being knowledgeable of effective interventions and strategies for the assigned population as well as individuals. Functions as a consultant in institutional housing, discipline and other specific inmate issues during normal working hours and, occasionally, via telephone after hours.

Job Requirements:

REQUIREMENTS: Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Human Development, Psychology, Family Relations, Vocational Rehabilitation, Art Therapy, Divinity, Human Resources, Naturopathy, Mental Health or other field approved by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services in order to become a Licensed Mental Health Practitioner AND 3000 hours of post-degree supervised counseling experience and experience providing mental health services. Licensed as a Mental Health Practitioner or possess another license that allows the incumbent to provide the above mental health services as required by NEB. REV. Statute 71-13114

PREFERRED: Supervisory experience. Possesses LIMHP. Experience working with incarcerated populations. Bilingual skills in Spanish/English desired and assessed.

OTHER: Transcripts required upon acceptance of any job offer. Must submit to a background security check. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the pre-employment medical exam and drug test. Once employed, all incumbents must successfully complete the fully paid Nebraska Department of Correctional Services pre-service training program.
