Job Summary

The Counselor will have active and in good standing LMHP/LIMHP licensure, provides outpatient services requiring specific competencies and/or credentials for reimbursement authorization. Implements assessments, treatment plans, and discharge plans on all clients assigned to their caseload. Actively communicates with referral sources to secure ongoing services for clients preparing to discharge from current levels of care.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • The ability to hold effective therapeutic relationships with clients and/or families who are experiencing a variety of complex substance abuse and/or mental health issues
  • Able to guide transformation through collaboration
  • Teach individuals coping skills and how to modify their behavior with the intention of full recovery.
  • Conducts chemical dependency assessments and evaluations to include a complete psychosocial assessment process.
  • Ensures competent professionalism and timeliness in clinical record keeping to include orientation, assessments, progress notes, treatment plans, treatment plan update/staffing reviews and discharge plans.
  • Provide follow-up and aftercare planning services as needed. Expeditiously discharges inactive clients.
  • Maintains active and consistent communication with current and potential referral sources in the community to ensure continuity of care for substance abusing clients.
  • Advances work knowledge by participating in continuing education in services, reading periodicals/literature and seeking ongoing development opportunities.


Job Requirements:

Qualifications and Skills

  • Knowledge of ethical and confidentiality laws as they apply to the field of substance abuse and mental health..
  • Knowledge of substance abuse treatment services and techniques.
  • Ability to facilitate group and individual counseling sessions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with healthcare team members and diverse populations.
  • Ability to supervise and mentor students in counseling methods and protocols
  • Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.
