Peer Support Specialist position within Goodwill’s Behavioral Health Services provides you an opportunity to put your recovery skills into action in helping others in their own recovery journey. We serve adults with mental health and addiction recovery needs. Your daily activities may include the following:

  1. Facilitating support groups to build recovery skills, for example a Depression Support or a Relapse Prevention group.
  2. Mentoring and supporting others in recovery.
  3. Be involved in statewide meetings and trainings provide for Certified Peer Support Specialists.
  4. Assisting with daily activities of the program, including transportation.

Job Requirements

  1. Development of Peer Support Services: Assist and consult with the Team Lead and/or Clinical Supervisor in enhancing and developing additional resources that provide quality training, information and experiences to empower participants in their recovery.
  2. Provide psycho-educational classes within the facility-based services: Provide psycho-educational classes and support groups in a manner that engages the participant to work towards their goals, share their recovery story with others, and promote wellness. The class/group topics are related to enhancing independent living skills, job readiness skills, and promotes rehabilitative recovery. The classes/groups are offered using creative educational approaches that aid in reaching various learning styles.
  3. Adhere to program documentation policies & procedures: Maintain clinical records consistent with agency policies and state regulations by documenting peer support services in the participant’s electronic file.
  4. Clinical Supervision: Actively participate in routine staffing and 1:1 Clinical Supervision meetings to review Peer Support services/interventions provided for participants, the documentation of these services, the impact/effectiveness of the service/intervention provided and explore opportunities to expand Peer Support services/interventions.
  5. Facilitate Drop-In Center: Facilitate the Drop-In Center services at the BH building to provide assistance to participants in a trauma informed manner in accessing resources in the community, learning about their diagnostics/treatment options, or time sharing their story/concerns/stressors etc.
  6. Comply with transportation policies and procedures: Follow all state and agency rules/regulations when transporting self and/or participants. Travel is required for business purposes.
  7. Effective teamwork:   Work effectively within the Day Services as an active team member with    positive and supportive teamwork. Provide coverage as needed for coworkers (including coverage in transportation, kitchen, and front desk) to ensure the program is provided in a quality manner following the routine participants anticipate as best as possible.
  8. Client-centered approach that focuses on exploring and resolving ambivalence and centers on motivational processes within the individual that facilitates change that includes identification, examination, and resolution of ambivalence about changing behavior.
  9. Peer Support will use strategies to elicit and support change talk and pathway to change behavior.
  10. Adhere to confidentiality policies and procedures: Process all information in a professional and  confidential manner.
